The Institute for Animal Husbandry has been engaged for decades in the production of high-quality breeding sheep and pigs, on the Institute’s experimental farms under the supervision of experts in genetics, reproduction and nutrition of domestic animals. The quality of our breeding material is best evidenced by the constant demand and hundreds of satisfied customers.
MIS sheep
The Institute is known for the creation of a new breed – MIS sheep, created by a complex combinatorial crossing of three sheep breeds: Pirot Pramenka, Merinolandschaf and Ile de France.
Why is the breeding of MIS sheep recommended?
The production parameters show that the MIS sheep has better reproductive and production performances than all three parent breeds, in our rearing conditions. This confirms the scientific hypothesis that is based on the heterosis effect, in the creation of new breeds and their management, meaning the combining the genetic values of several breeds, in order to obtain more vital and better quality offspring.
Production of quality breeding pigs
The Institute for Animal Husbandry produces on its experimental pig farm high quality breeding animals (tested boars and gilts with a completed performance test – ultrasound measuring of the backfat thickness in two places and the depth of the long back muscle) through the following categories:
– gilts of the Landrace genotype and F1 programed crosses (♀LW × ♂L and ♀L × ♂LW), animals over 100 kg body weight;
– pregnant gilts of the Landrace genotype and F1 programed crosses (♀LW × ♂L and ♀L × ♂LW), 1 (one) month pregnant gilts;
– gilts of the Landrace genotype and F1 programed crosses (♀LW × ♂L and ♀L × ♂LW), 2.5 (two and a half) month pregnant gilts;
– tested boars of the Landrace genotype.
