Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade (Zemun) publishes the scientific journal „Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry“. The first issue under this name in the Serbian language – Biotehnologija u stočarstvu – was published in 1990, although the history of the journal is longer dating from the eighties of the previous century and when the Proceedings were published during this time in certain intervals. The first regular issues of the journal started in 1987 in the form of „Proceedings“. By 1996, „Biotehnologija u stočarstvu“ was published in two double issues a year and after that, in the period from 1996 to 2010 in three double issues per year. Since 2010, the publication of scientific papers in the journal is exclusively in English except the summary in Serbian, the journal was renamed „Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry“ and published annually in four issues.
The journal also had three special editions. In 1999, the first double issue of the special edition of the journal „Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry“ was dedicated to the 15 year anniversary of publishing activities of the Institute and of the journal „Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry“. In 2010 and 2014 special issues of the journal were published presenting new technologies and improved technological procedures, the results of research performed by the scientists and researchers of the Institute for Animal Husbandry, in collaboration with colleagues from other scientific and educational institutions, integral part and results of Projects of technological development financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbia.
Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry is a scientific journal that publishes peer-reviewed, previously unpublished articles in the field of animal science ie. biotechnical science relating to genetics, reproduction and breeding, nutrition and physiology of domestic animals, welfare and health of domestic animals, technology, safety and quality of animal products, alternative animal production, feed production and ecology.
The journal is available in Open Access, co-financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. It is exchanged with over 30 similar research institutions. Since 2009 Biotechnology in Animal Husbandry is included in the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) system.
