The symposium was opened by the President of the International Scientific Committee, Prof. Dr. Lerica Le Roux-Poulin, Wageningen University (Netherlands) and Dr. Nikola Delić, Director of the Institute for Animal Husbandry and President of the Organizing Committee.
On behalf of the sponsors, the meeting was addressed by Dr. Marija Gnjatović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia and Dr. Ivan Bošnjak, State Secretary of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue of the Republic of Serbia. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management was represented by Dr. Nenad Katanić, State Secretary.
The International Scientific Committee of the Symposium consisted of 52 members, 20 of whom were from abroad (12 countries). The symposium was attended by 95 foreign participants (from 15 countries – Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, the Netherlands, Croatia, Switzerland, Sweden and Spain), as well as 71 domestic participants from renowned scientific research and educational institutions in Serbia (Institute of Animal Husbandry, Belgrade-Zemun, Faculties of Agriculture in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad, Faculty of Agronomy, Čačak, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Belgrade, Scientific Institutes of Veterinary Medicine in Belgrade and Novi Sad, Institute for Applied Science in Agriculture, Belgrade, Maize Research Institute “Zemun Polje”, Zemun-Belgrade, Institute of Forage Plants, Kruševac, Institute of Pesticides and Environmental Protection, Institute of Meat Hygiene and Technology).
A total of 54 papers were presented, 29 papers orally in various sections and 25 papers in the poster section. 20 papers by participants from abroad and 9 papers by domestic authors were presented orally, and in the three poster sections, 12 papers by participants from abroad and 13 papers by domestic authors.
The results of the latest research are presented, which provided answers to the biggest challenges in the field of genetic improvement, adaptation to climate change, antimicrobial resistance, welfare, sustainable nutrition of domestic animals, circular bioeconomy (case study of wool valorization), precision technologies in livestock farming, alternative sources of protein – defining the interdisciplinary nature of modern livestock farming and its integration in innovation, sustainability and tradition.
All submitted papers have been peer-reviewed and published in electronic form in the Book of Abstracts (ISBN, COBISS.SR-ID, National Library of Serbia, Belgrade, www.istocar.bg.ac.rs) and the Proceedings of the 14th International Symposium “Modern Trends in Livestock Production” (ISBN, COBISS.SR-ID, National Library of Serbia, Belgrade, www.istocar.bg.ac.rs).
At the closing ceremony, the winner of the poster section was announced – F.I Hernandez-Garcia and colleagues with the paper: “Use of lupin agronomically biofortified with selenium as a local and sustainable source of protein to increase the antioxidant capacity of Iberian pork.” The symposium was closed by Dr. Nikola Stanisic, Assistant Director for Science at the Institute of Animal Husbandry, Belgrade-Zemun and Vice President of the Organizing Committee.
