From May 4 to 8, an advanced course was organized by CIHEAM Zaragoza in collaboration with Universitat Politècnica de València, Re-Livestock, Digi4Live, CSIC, ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek) , and EU-LI-PHE CA22112.
As a member of WG1 and WG2 within the COST Action EU-LI-PHE CA22112, Aleksandra Petrović attended the course.
Participants had the opportunity to become familiar with modern approaches and technologies used within Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) systems. The course program included theoretical lectures, practical sessions, and a field visit to a livestock farm.
During the first day of the course, the fundamental principles of precision livestock farming and the importance of digital technologies in improving animal production, health, and welfare were presented. Particular focus was placed on different types of sensors and technologies used in PLF systems, such as RFID systems, sound analysis systems, accelerometers, GPS devices, and similar tools.
In addition, topics related to data standardization, as well as the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the processing and interpretation of collected data, were discussed.
On the final day, a technical visit was organized to an Avileña Negra cattle farm near Ávila, where participants had the opportunity to observe the practical implementation of selected PLF technologies under real production conditions.
