Within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ project “Climate-Smart Steps in Grassland Management and Improvement – SMART STEP,” a lecture entitled “Analysis of the Current State and Grassland Management Systems in Serbia” was held on 18 May 2026 at the “Radmilovac” Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, for third-year students.
The lecture highlighted the importance of grassland ecosystems for livestock production, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of natural resources. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of grasslands in providing high-quality forage, protecting soil, and maintaining the stability of agroecosystems.
The students were introduced to the main challenges affecting the condition of grasslands in Serbia, including the degradation of grassland areas, the underutilisation of pastures, and changes in land-use practices.
Special attention was given to modern approaches to grazing management, fertilisation, and grassland restoration, as well as their potential application under increasingly pronounced climate change conditions.
The lecture contributed to the education of future professionals and to improving knowledge of sustainable and climate-responsible grassland management.
