The very beginnings of the Laboratory’s work are linked to the Chemical laboratory of the Federal Institute for Animal Husbandry in Belgrade (1947), while it has been operating under the name Laboratory for Chemical and Microbiological Analyses since 1952 under the auspices of the Institute for Animal Husbandry Belgrade – Zemun, where the wool and feed were tested. Upon his arrival at the Institute, Master Slavko Josipović, a meat technologist, introduced the analysis of meat and meat products in 1973, which later became part of the services offered by the Laboratory.
Since 2001, the Chemical and Microbiological Laboratory of the Institute for Animal Husbandry has been under the leadership of B.Sc. chem. Gordana Marinkov, accredited by ATS (formerly JUAT), according to the ISO/IEC 17025:20 standard, and later also according to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. The laboratory is among the first ten accredited laboratories in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
From the beginning of its establishment, the activity of the Laboratory was based on the establishment of new and the implementation and modification of old methods for the needs of various animal feed, meat, meat products and eggs analyses, as well as active work on the creation of numerous scientific contributions (among others, work on master’s and doctoral theses, technical solutions, scientific papers, as well as cooperation with other scientific institutions).
Today, external analyzes are carried out for various needs such as: scientific research work, inspection services, farms and feed factories. All laboratory analyses are performed in accordance with international standards and current regulations.
